Screven County Sheriff's Office was alerted by Screven County School staff that several students had reported inappropriate communication with a former school contract employee to them. School administration took immediate measures to make sure this individual did not return to campus during this investigation and immediately alerted Screven County Sheriff's Office.

During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that Karry Thompson had previously been a paid contract employee and a volunteer with the school's band. The criminal investigation showed that over the course of the 2023-2024 school year Thompson had electronically communicated with several students. Further investigation showed that Thompson had electronically furnished obscene material to two minors over this time-period.

Warrants were sought against Thompson and he was taken into custody on May 15, 2024 at the Screven County Sheriff's Office. Thompson was charged with two (2) counts of OCGA 16-12- 100.1 Electronically Furnishing Obscene Material to Minors.
